Illness During School Day

Dear parents/guardians,

a quick reminder of the procedures to follow if your son/daughter becomes unwell during the school day and is seeking permission from you to leave school due to illness (excerpt from student journal, page 23):

  • When a student becomes ill during the school day they should inform the subject teacher that they have at that time and then seek permission from their year head to go to the main office so that a phone call home can be made. All contact with home must be made through the school office. Students are not permitted to phone directly.
  • Having obtained permission to go home, the student signs out in the office as they leave. If a student returns to school they must sign back in.
  • Students should never absent themselves from class without permission for health and safety reasons. This includes going to the toilets / leaving the building if feeling unwell – the teacher must be informed for safety reasons.
  • All of these points are to ensure the safety of your son / daughter while in our care and parent/guardian support in these matters is appreciated.

In the event that the student's year head is unavailable, then they should seek out one of the deputy principals before going to the main office.

Even if a parent submits a note via the app regarding the illness / permission to leave school in lieu of the phone call, the student must make that initial contact with their year head (or deputy principal if the year head is unavailable).

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

It was a lovely opportunity to develop relationships within our community. We had lots of interesting conversations such as about travel and advice the older person would give to their 17 years old self. Thank you to everyone who provided lovely music, baked, served tea and coffee.

Catholic Schools Week

Today marks the beginning of Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme, Catholic Schools: Communities of Service, focuses on the service that we give to one another by caring for each other in our home, our school and our parish. We look to Jesus for examples of how we can serve one another with love and respect, sharing our gifts and talents generously with each other. We celebrate each other and our many differences. We are each precious and unique before God; there never has been nor will there ever be anyone completely like any one of us.

Today, Monday, we are asked to think about friendship. Friendship is one of life’s gifts and a grace from God. Through our friends, the Lord refines us and leads us to maturity. Faithful friends, who stand at our side in times of difficulty, are also a reflection of the Lord’s love, his gentle and consoling presence in our lives. The experience of friendship teaches us to be open, understanding and caring towards others, to come out of our own comfortable isolation and to share our lives with others. For this reason, ‘there is nothing so precious as a faithful friend’

Prayer

Dear God,

I bring before you my friends.

Protect them from all evil and guide them safely on their journey.

Help us to discern what unites us and what divides us,

What sustains and oppresses us.

Enlighten our sight, strengthen our hearts, bless our friendships,

Guide our steps and let us remain in your love.

Amen.
