Students from the TY classes are working on their field studies modules. This gets students out of the classroom to investigate important geographical topics in the area they live. It is a key component too of Leaving Certificate Geography so will be of benefit to these students at senior level. Pictured are students from TYB and TYD undertaking an urban field study.

Dear Denis and staff of Blackwater Community School, students and parents. As you are aware, I opened a small convenience store adjacent to the Blackwater Community School on Monday 29th November last year. There is a one way system in operation and the shop is being run in accordance with current Covid Guidelines to secure everyone's safety. I would like to take this opportunity to inform you all of the shops opening hours as follows: 8 am to 4pm Monday to Friday. I may look to extend afternoon hours to cater for afterschool study needs if the need arises. The shop is offering the following: Scones and muffins, Lunchtime options: wraps, rolls, sandwiches from the deli counter, salad bowls, toasted sandwiches, toasted wraps and goujons rolls. There is 2 student deals on offer, namely: Student Deal 1: large roll of choice and bottle of water/mineral can 4euro Student Deal 2: large roll of choice, bottle of water/mineral can and small tub of pringles for 5euro. I hope to operate the deli counter, where possible, on a pre order basis to avoid delays at breaktimes, proposing that customers can pre order for collection at allocated lunchtimes. Orders can be placed by popping into the shop before school or the evening before to place order. There is also hot drinks on offer: tea/coffee/cappuccino/latte and hot chocolate, along with some essential household items ( milk, bread, firelighters etc.. for your convenience) Thanking you for your support to date and looking forward to seeing you all in the near future Warmest regards & keep safe Jenny Lyons Jimbob’s Cafe

6th year history students attended a live lecture hosted by Carlow College, on Zoom. The lecture covered Sinn Féin and the 1918 General Election, as well as the Anglo-Irish Treaty 1921. This opportunity allowed 6th years to revisit and revise part of their Irish topic ahead of their mock examinations. Thank you to Carlow College for this valuable resource.

“Dear Parents/Guardians As part of our Junior Cycle SPHE Programme and Senior Cycle RE Programme, we will be teaching the module on Relationships and Sexuality (RSE) this term. RSE is much wider than the physical aspects and incorporates the moral, spiritual, social and psychological elements of each person. Topics covered will vary and be relevant to each year group. Your son/daughter may wish to talk about the topics raised in class and you are best placed to address any concerns they may have. This module will begin during the week of 6th of January 2021. If you would like to discuss this further, or if you have any queries, do not hesitate to contact the school. We would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support. Yours sincerely, All SPHE and RE teachers”
