Some TY students from the Spanish classes are visiting the nuns as part of the Spanish Community Link. There are 4 groups of girls organized to visit. The first group started in October and finished last Monday. The girls handed the nuns Christmas cards which had been made by the students in the TY Spanish classes.

This is what one of the girls wrote about their experiences:

For the last few weeks we have been visiting the sisters in the convent. At the start we played games with them like “La Mona” a Spanish card game, and they all gave us a great laugh and they really enjoyed it . We learnt Spanish and Irish songs and they were very interactive and enthusiastic. They loved “La Macarena” dance most of all . They all had amazing stories to tell and it was a great experience for us ️. Wishing you all Feliz Navidad, Próspero Año y Felicidad

The Transition Year students with the help of our HFY group are donating Christmas gifts and letters to local nursing homes this year. TY students got assigned a person in a nursing home to buy a gift for or to write a Christmas letter to. The three local nursing homes that will be receiving these are Willowbrook, Curragh Lawns and Holy Family Convent. Well done to our TY students on the great effort they put into this very kind gesture.

Well done to our HFY ( Holy Family Youth ) students for organising a whole school collection for the local charity 'The Dining Room'. All the students in the school were encouraged to donate items that teenage girls would use. The students were very generous with their donations this year. All of these donations will be going to people in Newbridge. Pictured here are the HFY group with Ciara from the Dining Room.

Visit from Kildare artist Mary McGrath

Our 3rd-year and senior cycle Art students recently had the chance to meet with the talented Kildare-based artist, Mary McGrath. With her background in Art Conservation from London and Harvard University, Mary provided an enriching session delving into the intricate techniques of painting restoration.

Mary also captivated our students with her first hand account as the Project Manager for the relocation of the Francis Bacon Studio from London to the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin. This was especially relevant for our senior students who had visited the Francis Bacon studio earlier this year.

Mary is currently immersed in creating a piece of art for ‘Brigid 1500' with the SULT Artists Collective. This exhibition will unfold as an Art Trail in the heart of Kildare Town throughout February 2024.

A massive thank you goes out to Mary for generously sharing her wealth of knowledge, experiences, and expertise with our students. It's been an invaluable opportunity that will surely inspire their artistic journeys.

HFSS seal another All Ireland Volleyball Senior A Title

Today in the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown, our Senior Volleyball team sealed the All Ireland title against local rivals St. Mary's College, Naas.

After losing to the Naas school in the group stage a few weeks ago, the HFSS girls were looking for revenge. From the outset HFSS got on top of their opponents and from winning the first point of the match were never behind for the remainder of the best of five set match. A closely fought 25-20 first set win was followed by two dominant 25-15 set wins to take the title in just over an hour.

Congratulations to the sixth years on the team who bow out of schools volleyball with yet another title. We may be wrong but we think they have won the All Ireland title at all age groups they have competed in over the past 6 years. They will hope to retain the All Island title against the Northern Irish champions in early 2024.

An extra congratulations to Jessica Dowling who won MVP for the final.

And finally a special thank you to Ms. Reddy who has looked after the team organising the matches etc. for the year.
Active Schools Whole School Event

Last Thursday, the TY Active Schools Class completed their first whole schoolevent of the year. Following on from the feedback from the student questionnaires earlier in the year they decided to organise a two-part dance event. Each year group had a 'Just Dance' session in their classrooms and a 'Dance Off' in the gym.

The TYs organised everything from the schedule to the Spotify playlist and everything in between.

Standing up in front of their peers and leading an event, let alone a dance event, is not mean feat but they were fantastic.
