Students who do the Leaving Cert in grind schools less likely to complete college or get good degree grades

Today's Irish Independent reports a study from the Higher Education Authority that shows that students who do their Leaving Cert in grind schools rather than traditional schools perform worse in college and university. Students from grind schools are less likely to complete their degree courses and are less likely to get a 2:1 or a first-class degree. The report finds that in relation to college completion and getting a good degree, "grind schools do considerably worse than average". Well done to all our TYs who finished Transition Year today with an online graduation assembly. It was a lovely occasion with reminiscences from representatives from each of the TY classes, as well as Ms. Garrett, Ms. Callinan, Mr. Drea and Mr. Kinsella. The girls put together video montages of their year which showed gave a great overview of their experiences, learning and fun. Well done girls and have a great summer.

6th Year Debs POSTPONED

Dear 6th Year Students & Parents, On behalf of the Parents' Council Committee we would like to advise you that we have taken the disappointing decision to cancel the Debs for the Class of 2020.  We know this is a disappointing outcome for you all, but we wish to let you know that we did not take this decision lightly and have done so by taking into consideration all of the Government guidelines. As a committee, we have been in consultation with representatives from the 6th Year student body and have come to the conclusion that given all of the restrictions which are currently in place - and those which are likely to still be in place at the end of August - we have been left with no other option. We would like to compliment and thank the students for their thoughtfulness  and maturity in accepting this decision based on the realities we are all facing right now and into the near future. We would like to advise also, however, that if there is sufficient interest from the Class of 2020, once restrictions permit, we will work with the students to organise an event in the coming months.
