EPAS Award Ceremony South Constituency

St Augustine’s College were delighted to be invited to the EPAS Awards Ceremony for the South Constituency by the European Parliament which took place in the Brú Ború Heritage Centre in Cashel Co. Tipperary.  The European Parliament Ambassador School Programme (EPAS) programme gives students the opportunity to understand their rights as EU citizens and to learn about the role of the European Parliament. TY Student Eoghan O Brien gave an excellent presentation to a parked auditorium, this  represented all the EPAS activities carried out in our school during the year. MEPs Billy Kelleher, Sean Kelly and Grace O Sullivan were in attendance today and congratulated our students and Senior EPAS Ambassador Ms McGann for all the work carried out as part of the programme. In advance of Europe day on the 9th of May there was great celebration including the cutting of an EU cake!

5th years please be aware world skills is on the same day as the higher options in another section of the RDS. 90 tickets have been reserved for higher options. If students are interested in world skills which will be across the road please let me know by Tuesday so I can reserve tickets for you. The higher options is a fantastic forum where second level students are helped in making decisions about their studies by meeting directly with representatives from universities, colleges and education institutions from Ireland, the UK, Europe and beyond.  Over 160 universities, colleges, institutes of technology and professional organisations participate in this unique expo, and their reps are happy to talk directly with students, parents, and guidance counselors.  Colleges from Ireland, the UK, Europe and beyond provide information for thousands of 5th, TY and 6th year students to help them to make important choices on the higher and further education. 90 tickets have been reserved for friary students. Those interested please give your name to Ms Moore by Monday. 90 tickets have been temporarily reserved. After the higher options students will go to Dundrum shopping centre. Details on payment will be issued in August.

Darkness into Light 2023

Darkness Into Light Walk in aid of Pieta House will take place in the school again this year. It will begin  at 4:15 am on Saturday morning the 6th a nd finish up back in the school for teas and coffees. A special thanks to the teachers and students for helping out on the night. 
STEPS Engineering Your Future

STEPS Engineering Your Future is a Transition Year programme that gives students a hands-on, fun and practical insight into engineering at third level and as a career. Ten of our TY students attended the STEPS programme in  SETU: Waterford Campus this week May 2-4th.  The programme had a balance of talks, hands-on activities and fun challenges through which our TY students learned about life as an engineering student and professional. Sessions ran from 10am – 4pm daily. Well done TYs for participating in this event.

TY students had a busy day selling their Mini company products in the study hall today. Classes visited and purchased products. Many thanks to Ms Foley for organising this event. 
Haleon Visit our TY Students

9am on Wednesday 3rd of May we were delighted to welcome Paul - Site Director and VP - Haleon and past pupil Clodagh Fahey - Communication and Engagement Assistant to our TY classroom.  Haleon, launched as a new global Consumer Healthcare business in July 2022.  Haleon employs over 22,000 people globally and has a network of 24 sites, of which Dungarvan is one of the largest, employing over 900 people. The manufacturing site in Dungarvan was established in 1981, thus having a presence in West Waterford for over 40 years. They manufacture Power Brands Panadol and Polident,  suppling over 600 products to 70 markets worldwide. Paul and Clodagh gave a very interesting presentation to the TY students and informed them of the many career opportunities available at Haleon in Dungarvan. They also gave out spot prizes to the the students that answered questions.

Any 5th year student interested in a career in journalism. There is the opportunity to gain an internship this summer (paid) for 12 weeks with a local newspaper. Please call to Ms Moore before 11am tomorrow if interested. 
TUSLA - Child and Family Agency

Two speakers from Tusla visited our school today. They spoke to 75 of our TY students. They discussed all of the services that TUSLA provide in our community and also the various career that are available in TUSLA. Each student received a highlighter, pen, trolly token and an I can box containing cards with positive quotes. Many thanks for visiting us here in the Friary.
