Guidance Department Update Re: Practicals, Deadlines & State Examinations
Created : 19 Mar 2020, 3:04 PM

Please accept my very best wishes in these difficult and challenging times.I hope you are all doing ok and well done on the effort, commitment and energy that you are putting in to your work to date. Update for State Examination Candidates: - Orals are cancelled for exam students in 2020. 100% of marks to be offered to all students registered for those components. - Music Practicals for Leaving Cert and both JC Music and JC Home Economics practicals are also cancelled with 100% marks given to all registered. - Work scheduled and due between 20 March and 24 April will now have an extended May 15th deadline. The Government and State Examinations Commission are still working on the basis that exams WILL go ahead, so students should continue to focus and have a good study pattern. All students should maintain a sense of routine: -shower, dress, create a separate study space, log on to the school's online platform and engage with your school work daily. Attached please find some study tips and techniques. As always you are reminded to take breaks and look after yourself - take daily exercise (outdoors in the fresh air is best), eat healthily, stay hydrated and ensure you get good quality restful sleep. Students should not spend excessive time on social media, although it is useful to communicate with your friends at this time... when social distancing is needed! ☺ Most importantly, be kind to yourself - do things you enjoy; relax, listen to music, read a book, paint a picture etc. Be kind to family and friends and offer them your support. Stay calm, we are all facing these new challenges together and are doing our best in difficult circumstances. If you need help, advice or support you may contact Mrs. Griffin through the school approved email, during normal school hours. Stay safe and well.

Good morning All. I hope you are keeping well. A reminder classes should be continuing according to the school timetable. It is advisable to structure your day well and following the timetable will help you do this. A reminder that the Taoiseach last night mentioned contingency plans for state exams, it is very important that exam students remain motivated and remember the end goal. Advice from the Guidance Department for students during Tarbert Comprehensive School Closure
Created : 13 Mar 2020, 12:50 PM

On weekdays follow your normal school timetable - it gives a clear structure- focus on your subjects for 40 minutes - regularly log in to emails from your teachers and consult the school app and website for live streaming, details of power points, class notes, homework etc. Make a study plan - ensure you rest during study periods, eat sufficient and healthy food, drink lots of water, engage in physical activity (outdoors is best), stay in contact with friends and family and most importantly get 8 hours of good quality sleep each night. This is a unique and unprecedented scenario for us all, however using the strategies that you have used in the past to manage times of stress can benefit you now. Remember all you have learned in SPHE, Wellbeing and in the “Friends For Life” Resilience classes. Look at this extra time as an opportunity - you have time to read books (excellent recommendations from the school book club), listen to your music and enjoy some fresh air! It is normal and acceptable to feel some sense of worry and anxiety over the outbreak of the Covid-19 coronavirus. Be mindful of those around you and take the above advice into account when looking after your own wellbeing. If you need to speak to someone, contact: Aware 1800 80 48 48 (depression, anxiety) Samaritans 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.ie Pieta House 1800 247 247 or email mary@pieta.ie (suicide, self-harm) Teen-Line Ireland 1800 833 634 (for ages 13 to 18) Childline 1800 66 66 66 (for under 18s) Email Mrs. Griffin in the Guidance Dept Stay safe & well!
