KERRY DREAMTIME ‘Lore and Legend of the Magillicuddy Reeks’ by Thomas ‘Totty’ O’Sullivan LAUNCH at Beaufort Bar, Beaufort, On Thursday, December 12th, @ 8 p.m. Special Guest on the night … Áine Moriarty, CEO of Irish, Film, Television, Academy (I.F.T.A) Kerry Dreamtime ... is the culmination of five years work collecting the legends and the lore of Magillicuddy Reeks. This publication has its conception, initially in the setting up of Beaufort Historical Archive in cooperation with Beaufort Community Council and CE Scheme in 2014. Kerry Dreamtime … is an expression of the cultural content of the ‘spine of Kerry’, that is the Magillicuddy Reeks … the songs, poems, stories, history, previously unpublished material and including unique Beaufort age-old traditions including … Biddys, the Kalem Films, 1910, etc. ‘Kerry Dreamtime’ is a cultural layer, a ‘sense of place’ complimenting the physical pristine landscape of the Reeks. Kerry Dreamtime … ‘idir dá loch’… the landscape between Loch Léin to Loch Acouse with seven chapters exploring the seven peaks … Strickeen, Cruach Mhór, Cnoc na Péiste, Corrán Tuathail, Beenkeragh, Cathair na Féine and Screig Mhór … a cultural portrait from either side of the Reeks Ridge … the Black Valley on the south side and to the Laune Valley on the northern flanks. All illustrations are original to augment the stories with some unusual photographs. Kerry Dreamtime … a ‘cultural companion’ as you trek along the Reeks, furthering your experience of the stories that shape the physical landscape and the intangible aspects of this stunning part of Iveragh, in Kerry. Price is a modest, 10 euro … and proceeds toward the Beaufort Community Hall Refurbishment Project which will be beginning in 2020. Music, song and poetry at Launch.
