Archived : 12 Feb 2019, 12:00 AM
Classroom Based Assessment (CBA) is one of the new assessment tools used in the revised Junior Cycle. Junior Cycle students will complete two CBAs for each subject in the new Junior Cycle. One CBA will take place in 2nd Year and one CBA will take place in 3rd Year (Gaeilge is the only exception with both CBAs taking place in 3rd Year). The grading system used for CBAs comprises of a 'descriptor' rather than a percentage. These descriptors are reported on in the students official Junior Cycle Certificate. Descriptors are awarded to students using subject specific 'Features of Quality'. The Features of Quality are available on our website www.naascbs.ie under JCT and will help you to understand the grade achieved. 3rd Year English, Business and Science are currently undertaking CBA2 2nd Year English, Business, Science, Art, French and German will be undertaking CBA1 next Spring

I just wanted to let you know that tomorrow is the last day for handing in project work and expecting it to be graded in time for you to use it in your Interview next week. Students have been given out information about the interviews. I draw your attention to click on the "portfolio" picture in the Gallery part of the School App. I will be handing out interview timetable tomorrow. Next week the lads are expected to report to me in Room 2/15 with a number of items one half hour before their interview time.. 1. Portfolio folder. 2. School Journal. (both up to date) for grading. 3. A completed Goals and Achievements sheet. 4. A list of the 6 graded projects that they will be presenting at interview. They are also expected to have their School Record up to date, ie all absences explained to form teachers, their 3 compulsory pieces in order ie Work Experience project submitted, Gaisce account activated with 15 hours online diaries completed in it and their School Journal and Portfolio folder up to date. I wish all students the best in their interview and encourage parents to help them be prepared. The boys should be able to show you all of the items mentioned above. Regards. N Rennick.
