Every year the nine best students of mathematics are awarded the Hamilton prize. Mathematics departments in Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, Dublin City University, University College Cork, NUI Galway, NUI Maynooth, University of Limerick, TU Dublin and Queen's University Belfast are invited to nominate their "best" student in their penultimate year of undergraduate mathematical studies. The selection of the best student is based either on the results of the annual assessment of the year’s performance or on the best performance in the ordinary institution examinations in Mathematics at the end of the year. The nomination is left to the discretion of the Department of Mathematics in each of the institutions to decide. Frank was nominated by the University of Limerick for the A1s he has so far achieved in his degree in Mathematical Sciences. He is now in his final year of undergraduate studies. We are extremely proud of Franks achievements and wish to extend our congratulations to him and his family!

There will be a mental health and wellbeing work shop for TY on Tuesday, 5th November 2019 from 10 – 1.15 given by Soar. If any parent or guardian has any concern regarding the above , please feel free to contact any member of the Career Guidance dept. L.G. and E.O’c. About Soar Soar is a collective movement which believes that there is greatness within all young people. We act on this by creating and delivering early intervention, character development workshops for young people aged 13 to 18 years from all backgrounds. Our workshops empower young people to thrive, believe in themselves and fulfill their true potential. Within a supportive environment, they are given the opportunity to be themselves and explore any challenges that hold them back from doing so. We have worked with over 34,000 young people since 2012 and we’re just getting started! Soar was founded in 2012 by Tony Griffin and Karl Swan. They were inspired by the work of Jim Stynes and The Reach Foundation in Melbourne Australia having seen the documentary “Every Heart Beats True: The Jim Stynes Story”. In October 2012, Soar was recognised as an award winning organisation in achieving the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Impact Award.
