Subject: Covid-19 Importance: High Dear Principal, We have received, in the Department of Public Health South East, reports from colleagues around the country of cases of COVID-19 associated with secondary school attendance. There are a few matters (which impact on all students, but are reported to impact particularly on Leaving Certificate students) that I would like to highlight with you: Students going to large parties, in particular 18th birthday parties. Cases attending schools while symptomatic. Close contacts attending school when knowing they are a close contact. Leaving Certificate students may feel a need to attend school, despite advice to the contrary, for calculated grades tests. We have not received similar reports in the South East, and we have had very few cases in secondary school age children since the return to school after Easter. I commend, and thank you and your staff for all your work on this to date. I would appreciate if you would further appeal to students and staff to keep up the good work, in particular emphasising the need for cases, suspect cases, and close contacts to stay out of school for the advised period, and to all students to avoid gathering in large groups, and in particular, indoors. Kind regards, Sarah Doyle Dr. Sarah Doyle, MB BCh BAO MPH FFPHMI FRCPI, MCRN 19055. Specialist in Public Health Medicine, Medical Officer of Health, HSE South East Kilkenny

Dear Parent/Guardian We want to thank you all for your support to date in our implementation of COVID 19 safety measures. To ensure our school remains COVID free we are appealing to all parents to fully support us in the following areas: Students are not allowed leave the school environs at any time during the school day. This is to protect our local community and our school community. Any breach of this rule will result in an automatic suspension. Students need to always remain within their designated social areas and ensure social distancing, sanitising of hands & wearing of masks at all times. Students cannot leave the school under any circumstance unless they have notified their year head and then signed out by a parent / guardian in school reception area. Full school uniform is compulsory at all times, additional clothing is allowed, once it is not visible underneath the uniform. Sincere thanks once again to everyone within our school community for your ongoing support and cooperation! Ní neart go cur le chéile Denis , Maurice and Maria

Parents/Guardian Information Night Teenage Sexual Awareness and Consent (ASSUME) Dear Parent / Guardian On Tuesday April 27th @ 7.30 we will be hosting an information night for all Parent/Guardian of Blackwater Community School on the ASSUME programme. The ASSUME program is based on the premise of challenging assumptions, encouraging young people to think before they ASSUME they understand something without having the facts, particularly about consent and how it applies to them as adolescents. As an element of her role as a sexual assault forensic examiner the presenter, Margo Noonan, has been delivering educational interventions about sexual health and sexual violence to adolescents in several rural and urban post primary schools for several years. In conjunction with this the researcher provides acute and follow up forensic and medical care to male and female victims of sexual violence. This experience was utilised in the development of the educational component which uses fact-based information and accounts of sexual violence cases to challenge commonly held misconceptions about sexual violence and sexual health. Over the past 5 years Margo has made presentations to all senior students in BCS, ensuring that they have factual and practical knowledge in sexual health and safety. This online presentation using ZOOM will be accessible by sending an email to events@blackwatercs.com and expressing an interest to attend by Friday April 23rd. A link will then be returned to your email on Monday April 26th.
